(From Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home)Virginia Sue Gosch, 81, died August 31, 2021 after a brief illness at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. She was born October 1, 1939 in Madison, KS, the daughter of William and Ruth Davidson.
Sue graduated from Columbus Kansas High School, Class of 1957. Following graduation, Sue attended Kansas State Teacher College (Pittsburg State University) graduating in 1961. She received a Master’s Degree in 1986, also from Pittsburg State University.
Sue married Tom Gosch, her college sweetheart on January 29, 1961. They celebrated 60 years of marriage with their immediate family in January of this year.
Sue began her teaching career in Parsons Kansas before beginning her 32 year career in the Webb City School District. Sue served as a classroom teacher at Eugene Field Elementary and Webb City Jr. High followed by being the principal at Webster Elementary.
Sue was also a member of P.E.O. and was celebrating her 50th year as a member. Sue also was a long time member of the Central United Methodist Church, Webb City, where she loved singing in the church choir for many years and also helped develop a children’s Sunday school curriculum.
Sue received the Cardinal Award along with being recognized as a “Pillar of the Past” from the Webb City School District. Sue was instrumental in the development of the school districts Christmas food drive co-sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance. Tom and Sue also enjoyed being the King and Queen of the Mining Days Parade many years ago.
Sue was preceded in death by both of her parents. Survivors include her husband Tom of the home, sons Bret and his wife Carin of Webb City; Bill of rural McDonald County and Lance and his wife Kelli of Branson West, MO. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Derrick and his wife Amanda, Cade and his wife Dani, Krista and Cooper. Her two great grandchildren, Easton and Emma, brought her much happiness. She is also survived by one brother, Jon Davidson and his wife Mary Lou, of Sugarland, Texas; Sister in law Roberta Gosch of Cyprus, Texas.
A Service of remembrance will be held on Sunday afternoon, September 5, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Webb City. A private interment will be at Carterville Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Sue in a special was may make monetary gifts in her memory to Watered Gardens c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
