(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Ronny Blake Smith, 45, passed away at Mercy Hospital in the loving arms of his mother Dee Hoag on Tuesday June 7th.
Ron graduated from Joplin High School and attended Missouri Southern. Ron enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an exceptional deer hunter with several trophy deer mounts.
At one time Ron was ranked twelfth in the nation in 3D archery competition. Ron was a heavy equipment operator until a rare devastating illness prohibited him from working further.
Ron is survived by his parents Patrick and Dee Hoag of Joplin; daughters Sydney and Carsyn Smith of Carl Junction; a sister Dr. Tracey Poston and her partner Brad Woodall of Boston, MA; a brother John Hoag and wife Michelle of Singapore; aunts Sharon Comstock of Arcadia, KS and Donna Johnson of Joplin; uncle Mike Hughes and wife Tinney of Grove, OK; cousin Sarah Canada; and, nieces and nephews Laney Hoag, Jackson Hoag and Sam Wang.
In Ron’s early years, he was very close to his deceased grandparents Don and Ann Hughes; and, uncle Jimmy Hughes.
The family would like to express a very personal and sincere “Thank You” to Dr. David W. Croy, MD, and his staff, and to the nurses and staff of Mercy Hospital for their many years of dedicated and excellent medical care provided to Ron.
To say farewell, we would like to invite all of Ron’s family and friends to attend his viewing at Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin on Monday June 13, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
