(From Derfelt Funeral Home)David A. Berry Sr., 75 of Galena, KS passed from this life on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Landmark Hospital, Joplin, MO.
David was born March 1, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to the union of Justice Arthur and Alba Irene (Paul) Berry. David joined the United States Navy and was a fireman marine aboard the USS Southerland. He served from 1964-1968.
David was united in marriage to Jaye D. (McClure) Berry on September 21, 1985 in Baxter Springs, KS.
David spent time as a truck driver in California and for the last thirty-five plus years he worked here locally. Along with trucking he had a business degree and a mechanics degree. He was always tinkering with old cars and race cars. David enjoyed racing, fishing, playing his guitar that he learned to play at the age of 4, David also played music in the service and played with the Solid Gold Band from 1983-1987. He enjoyed singing, camping, and working on boats, but he especially enjoyed the time he spent playing with his grandchildren. David was a member of the Kingdom Life Fellowship Church in Webb City, MO.
David is preceded in death by his biological mother, Clara Jean Kirkpatrick, his adopting parents, Alba Irene Berry, and Justice Arthur Berry; brothers, Mark Kirkpatrick, and Jack Berry; daughters, Lola Berry, and Alba Jenkins; father-in-law, Joe McClure.
David is survived by his wife Jaye Berry; son, David Berry Jr; daughters, Jayme Loyd and husband Kevin, and Savannah Berry; brothers, Tom Berry, and Mike Berry wife Charlene; sisters, Judy Harms, and Bobby Wade; mother-in-law, Shirley McClure; sisters-in-law, Gwen McClure and Teri Elliot and husband Dwight; son-in-law, Don Jenkins II; grandchildren, Amber Bucy, Nathan Hoagland, David Berry III, Allen Berry, Jade Jenkins, Beau Loyd, Kailey Loyd, Natalie Loyd, Trenton Loyd, Jalynn Loyd; great grandchildren, Roseleana Gandy, Damian Rodriguez, Ayden Davis, Aliyah Leatherman, and Sapphyra Hoagland; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pastor Chad Hensley will officiate. Burial of cremains will follow at the Pence Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday from Noon until service time. David has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation.
