(From Konantz Warden Funeral Home)Delbert Raymond Berryhill, 85, of Lamar, MO passed away on Wednesday June 15, 2022. Delbert was born in rural Barton County near Oakton on June 14, 1937, to Norval and Ruby (Wescott) Berryhill.
He attended Lamar High School and graduated in 1955. In the summer breaks he enjoyed working on the farm in Jasper, MO with his Uncle Lawrence.
After graduation Delbert drove a truck for Berryhill Oil Company and then went on the drive for Yellow Freight for the next 43 years, a career that gave him the distinction of being in the top three longest working drivers. He also helped Brother Adams with his mules and volunteered with the Carl Junction Fire Department in the 70s and 80s.
He enjoyed fishing, trains, and vacationing and camping with his children and grandchildren. Delbert raised his four stepchildren, and they honor him as a loving father who literally stepped up to raise them.
He is survived by his children Jeanie (John) Wyrick of Joplin, MO, Sherri (Jim) Bayless of Lamar, MO, Terry (Terri) Hirshey of Carl Junction, MO, Gary (Sue) Hirshey of Carl Junction, MO; grandchildren Brian (Charity) Bayless, Chad (Heather) Bayless, Clay McCallister, Seth (Megan) Bayless, Matt (Tamrah) Bayless, Kaylee (Brandon) Nash, and Christian Hirshey; 16 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Ronald (Joan) Berryhill, Kay (Bob) Divine, Charles (Rhonda) Berryhill, and Lorene (Johnny) Darrah.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Margaret Marti.
