It was during this time that his first daughter, Connie was born. After returning to the States in December 1953, Galen and Freda had their second daughter, Diane, as well as their second son Donald (their first son Stanley having been stillborn).
Galen and Freda purchased a farm and he became a lifelong farmer; Galen also went to work at the B.F. Goodrich tire plant in Miami, Oklahoma, in the Quality Control Department. Galen would work the family farm on evenings and weekends, and he worked full-time for over 30 years at the tire plant until it closed in 1986.
Galen loved horses, having had a few during his lifetime, and he also loved farming with his John Deere tractors and farm implements. In their later years together Galen and Freda would go round dancing together.
Soft-spoken and gentle, Galen will be remembered for his remarkable kindness and willingness to help anyone out in their time of need. He greatly enjoyed spending family time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
