David Balcom

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

David Leslie Balcom was born on August 15, 1946, in Webb City, MO. He bid farewell to this world on August 27, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and an indomitable spirit.

David Balcom was an extraordinary man who lived an eventful life with an open heart and a generous soul. American author Mark Twain once said, "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." For David, the day he found his calling as a truck driver was indeed the day he discovered his 'why', his purpose.

David spent the majority of his life on the open road, seeing the world through the windshield of his truck. He was a man of the road, a lover of the journey rather than the destination. His occupation not only provided for his family but also satisfied his innate desire for exploration and adventure. David was a man in love with the vast expanses of the country he served, spending countless hours navigating its highways and byways. His stories of the road were as captivating as the man himself, filled with heart-warming anecdotes, humorous mishaps, and lessons learned.

David shared his life with his beloved wife, Sherry Balcom, whom he married on April 9, 2004. Together, they built a life filled with love, respect, and mutual admiration. Their bond was a testament to David's belief in the power of love and commitment. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Joy Jones. David's absence will undoubtedly leave a void in the lives of those he leaves behind. However, his memory will continue to inspire and guide them, reminding them of the man who lived life on his own terms.

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." David Balcom lived by this quote, cherishing every moment and living life to the fullest. As we remember David, we are reminded to celebrate life in all its beauty and to cherish the memories we create.

A Service for David will be held Saturday Sept. 7 at 2 pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness of Joplin (2500 S County Lane 203). There will be a graveside committal service Monday September 16, 2024 at 2 pm at the Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.

Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home. The family encourages relatives and friends to visit www.simpsonfh.com to share photos and memories of David. Your thoughts, stories, and pictures will serve as a comforting reminder of the man who touched our lives in so many ways. Your contributions will help keep David’s spirit alive, reminding us all to live life with love, courage, and a sense of adventure.
