Hank Thomas

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Henry "Hank" Thomas, born on September 8, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Marian Rife, passed away on August 31, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with illness.

Hank was the kind of person who could lift your spirits with a single joke, often bringing others to tears of laughter even when he was struggling with his own sadness. His ability to find joy in life and share it with others was truly a gift, and he never let anger or frustration cloud his interactions with those around him.

Hank was also a gifted painter, creating works of art that would have impressed even Bob Ross. His love for painting allowed him to express his inner world, bringing beauty and tranquility to all who were fortunate enough to see his work. His creativity was a reflection of his generous spirit. Hank’s love for life was evident in everything he did. Whether he was out fishing, hosting a big fish fry, painting, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, his warmth and generosity shone through. He was a man who never let life’s hardships dampen his spirit, and he always found a way to bring joy to those around him.

Hank was a man of many talents and passions, but his greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Shawna—his beloved “Little Sunshine.” Shawna was the light of his life, and the bond they shared was unbreakable. Hank never missed one of Shawna’s softball games, faithfully keeping record of every pitch and cheering her on with the pride only a devoted father could have. His love for Shawna was boundless, and even in the face of overwhelming challenges, he chose to hold on and fight, determined to spend as much time with her as possible.

Hank's home was more than just a place to live; it was a sanctuary for all who entered. He had a unique way of making everyone feel safe, welcome, and at ease, no matter their circumstances. Whether it was a warm meal, a listening ear, or just a place to rest, Hank's door was always open. His kindness and generosity created a comforting atmosphere where friends and family knew they could always find support, love, and understanding. In his home, there was always room for one more, and no one ever left without feeling a little lighter and a lot more loved.

In his professional life, Hank was dedicated and hardworking. He spent years working in surveillance at a casino, where his keen eye and calm demeanor earned him the respect of his colleagues. He also served his community as a dispatcher for 911 and the police station, providing support and guidance in moments of crisis. Outside of work, Hank found joy in simple pleasures like fishing and hosting big fish fries, where his warmth and generosity shone through.

In recent years, Hank faced numerous challenges and health issues that made it difficult for him to enjoy the activities he loved, like fishing. Despite these setbacks, his resilience remained unshakable. While many might have given up, Hank stayed strong, fueled by his deep love for his daughter Shawna. It was this love that kept him fighting, determined to hold on and create just a little more time to share with her. His strength in the face of adversity was a testament to the unwavering bond they shared.

Hank is survived by his daughter Shawna; his grandchildren Ryan, Jordan, Kylee, Emma, and Mason; and his great-grandchildren Abigail, Adelynn, Ivy, Waylon, and Rylee, his nieces Telisha, Kim, Amanda, and Natasha, his nephew Matthew, his brothers Paul Thomas (Tammy) and Louis Thomas (Kelly), and his sister Joy Lynn Crum (Dan).

He is preceded in death by his mother, Marian; his son, Torey Thomas; his daughter, Heather Slaughter; and his brother, Bill Thomas. As he reunites with those who have gone before him, we imagine him casting a line into the waters of Heaven, finding peace and joy in the embrace of those he loved. While his passing leaves an irreplaceable void, Hank’s legacy of love, laughter, creativity, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Hank. Your light will continue to shine through those who loved you most.

A Celebration of Life is being planned by the family and will take place at a later time.

Arrangements are in the care of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. Cremation rites will be accorded to Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
