(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Cecil "Sonny" Burris, 79 of Galena, Kansas passed from this life on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, MO.
Cecil was born in Bell Gardens, CA on October 9, 1944 to Albert and Dorothy (Ganstine) Burris. After graduating high school, Cecil served in the United States Air Force. He then went to work as a foreman for the railroad. After retirement from the railroad he operated ATM's and owned and operated his own liquor store. Cecil enjoyed painting, riding horses, playing cards and playing pool.
Cecil was united in marriage to Pamela Burris. She precedes him in death. He is also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, and one brother.
Cecil is survived by one son, Kirk Burris and wife Michelle of Joplin, MO; daughter, Sonya Spainhower and husband Jeff of Galena, KS; along with his beloved fur friends, Maxi (dog) and Ethel (cat). He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Cecil has been entrusted to Derfelt's Baxter Chapel for cremation. Celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2024 at Cecil's home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
