Ronald Caddell

Ronald Perrine Caddell, 90, of Stotts City, Missouri, passed away September 23, 2024. Ronald was born May 19, 1934, in Cadillac, Michigan, to Mr. Perrine Caddell and Mrs. Blanche (Darrow) Caddell.

Ronald married Darlene Moennig on November 5, 1961, in Freistatt, Missouri. He is survived by his wife Darlene, as well as their three children, Nicholas Caddell of Exeter, Missouri, Michael (Sheila) Caddell of Pierce City, Missouri, and Christy (Clifford) Rice of Lamar, Missouri.

When Ronald was a boy, his mother developed a health condition that didn’t agree with the Michigan climate. At that time, the family sold nearly everything they had, which included a well-established dairy farm, to move to Apache Junction, Arizona. As legend has it, during a trip through Missouri, Ronald’s father remarked that if Mrs. Caddell’s health ever agreed, he would like to buy a farm in the area. Some years later the family was able to do just that, taking up roots in Southwest Missouri. Ronald later graduated from Miller High School in 1952.

For many years Ronald, Darlene, and their children simultaneously maintained a household and farm in both Lamar and Pierce City. They milked dairy cattle and raised beef cattle while Ronald also held a job with the State of Missouri Highway Department. He retired in 1990 as an Area Supervisor after 36 years of service. Ronald prided himself in working hard to make an honest living.

Ronald was known for his use of the typewriter and a “sharp pencil.” He kept records of everything, and under the right circumstances, could type up a letter that could fluster a good attorney. However, he was also just as concerned with using his typewriter or pencil to send out heart-felt sympathy letters or humorous birthday cards. Many family members and friends still cherish the notes he’s sent them throughout the years.

Ronald was extremely proud of the history and heritage of his family and was an excellent storyteller. He had something interesting to share with anyone who would listen, but his favorite audience to captivate was that of his grandchildren. Ronald (Grandpa) will be especially missed by his five grandsons, three granddaughters, nine great-grandsons, ten great-granddaughters, and one great-great grandson on the way.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Perrine, and Blanche; infant brother, Wallace Caddell and sister, Mariam Copeland.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A burial will follow at the Union Cemetery west of Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made payable to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Sarcoxie, the Lutheran Hour or the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.
