On September 6, 2026, we bid farewell to a truly remarkable woman, Mildred Elene Phillips. Born on April 26, 1928 to Jesse and Myrtle Bendure, Mildred’s journey of nearly a century was marked by love, humility, courage and compassion. A devoted member of the Christian Church in Waco, she lived a life of service and devotion that touched countless hearts, honoring the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love."

Mildred was a woman of exceptional strength and resilience, spending her professional years as a factory worker in a shirt factory before her well-deserved retirement. Despite the demanding nature of her work, she found joy in her hobbies- particularly her passion for gardening, where she found solace and connection with nature. She was a humble soul, never seeking the limelight, yet her courageous spirit and compassionate heart shone brightly, leaving a profound impact on those lucky enough to know her.

Mildred moved gracefully through the chapters of her life, from Waco to Joplin and Central City, before settling in Ava, for the last 20 years. At the heart of her journey was her love for her family.

Mildred is survived by her children Virginia Wilson and her husband James, and William Sullivan and his wife Dana; her brother Harvey and his wife Jinny; seven grandchildren including Rocca Masten and her husband Paul, Cindy Young and her husband Duane, Timmy Wilson and his wife Tonya, Otho Wilson Sr and his wife Lisa, Angela Herd and Paul, Michael Sullivan and his wife Lindy, and Christina Dragoo and her husband Jonathan. She is also survived by multiple great-grand children and great-great grand children. Mildred also leaves behind nieces, nephews and cousins Including Betty Ann Brown, the Bendure Sisters and a multitude of others.

She was predeceased by her loving parents, Jesse and Myrtle Bendure; her son Robert; grandson Brian; and two husbands. Widowhood could not dim her zest for life, as she continued to live fully, savoring every moment.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM . Graveside service will follow at Old Pleasant View Cemetery, Weir, KS.
