Annette Mitts

Annette M. Mitts, 69, Reeds, MO, passed away Saturday evening, October 21, 2017 at her home. Annette “Ann” Marie Hornback was born April 2, 1948 in Carthage, MO to Paul Hornback and Lillian (Lambeth) Hornback. She graduated from Carthage High School, Class of 1966. Ann married Doug Mitts on September 30, 1991 in Miami, OK; he survives. She was self-employed and a Christian by faith.

Survivors include her mother, Lillian, her husband, Doug, two sons, Jeff Stout (wife Melinda), Reeds, MO,and Jonathan Stout (wife Jana), Joplin, MO; one brother, Don Hornback of Florida; nine grandchildren, Ethan Wiggin, Brett Stout, Azia Smith, Nathan Ayers, Arkell Smith, Kasie Stout, Clay Stout, Grayson Stout, and Gabriella Stout and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, one daughter, Sharon Stout, one brother, Roger Hornback, one grandchild and one great grandchild.

Visitation will be held 6-7 p.m., Monday, October 30, 2017 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Private family services will take place at a later date in Avilla Cemetery, Reeds, MO. Martha Jones

Martha Raye Jones, age 76, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Communities of Wildwood after a lengthy illness.

Martha was born April 21, 1941 in Seneca, Missouri, daughter of the late Ray Calvin Alderson and Ethel Emma Middleton Alderson. She graduated from Seneca High School, and was a lifelong resident of this area. She worked for the Jasper County Juvenile Detention Center as a Superintendent for many years, retiring in 2002.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Ray Barnett, and her faithful furry companion, Midge.

Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Goad and husband Paul of Joplin, Susan Weddle and husband Albert of Fort Scott, Kansas; grandchildren, Mindi Harper and husband Zack of Webb City, Dalton Weddle and Shiann Weddle both of Fort Scott; great-grandchildren, Jude and Zaidin; sister, Diane Melton and husband Andy of Asbury, Missouri; uncle, Odell Middleton and wife Margaret of Deerfield, Washington, niece, Stacy Welch of Joplin; nephew, Bob Stafford of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Graveside services will be Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Seneca Cemetery with family and friends officiating.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Dale Kime

Dale H. Kime age 65 of Webb City passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital after a sudden illness. 

 He was born on July 10, 1952 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Jack Kime and Faye (Endicott) Kime. Dale was a grocery store manager for most of his life and a faithful member of the Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin. Dale loved the Lord with all his heart and spread the Word at every opportunity. Dale was a devout student of the gospel and had read the Bible many times over. He also served Elks Lodge 501 for over 17 years and was a past Exalted Ruler. Dale’s grandchildren were the light of his life, and he spent time with them at every opportunity. A faithful Christian, beloved father and grandfather, and devoted husband, Dale’s presence here will be sorely missed. 

 He married Bonnie (Johnston) Kime on February 14, 1997 and she survives him. Dale is also survived by his daughter, Kerri Kime and husband Quinton Ford of Glencoe, Missouri; step-son, Jason Allen and wife Heather of Webb City; grandchildren, Sam Sanders, Madison Allen, Tyler Allen, Avrie Allen, Davy Ford; brother, Warren Kime of Wichita, Kansas; and a sister, Diana Stout of Pittsburg, Kansas. He was preceded in death by a son, David Kime, and a brother, Lynn Kime. 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. The family will be present for visitation on Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Lisa Johnson

Lisa Joann Johnson, age 50, of Liberal, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 23, 2017, at her home, after a sudden illness.

Lisa was born March 26, 1967, in Doniphan, Missouri, to Marion and Whanita (Millwood) Shelton. On February 15, 1995, at Mt. Vernon, Missouri, she married Darrell Johnson and they later moved to Liberal to be near family. Darrell suffered a stroke and passed away January 28, 2017. Lisa was also preceded in death by her parents; a step-son, Cody Johnson in 2015; and a brother, Danny Shelton this past July.

A natural caregiver, Lisa earned LPN certification and had worked in various nursing homes in Carthage, Webb City, and Neosho. She was proud to have trained and supervised most of her children as they continue her legacy as compassionate health care providers. Lisa was an avid reader and a talented seamstress. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting afghans for family and friends.

Survivors include three sons, Mike and Joe of Liberal, and Kelly of Springfield; three daughters, Amber of Liberal, Brandy of Aurora, and Holly of Lamar; two brothers, Mark Shelton, Pierce City, and Robert Shelton, Joplin; a sister, Nancy Gautney, Aurora; 24 grandchildren; and a large extended family.

The family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 27th, at Daniel Funeral Home. Rocky Lemmons will officiate an informal service to honor Lisa with shared memories beginning at 7:00 p.m. – please come prepared to tell your favorite “Lisa Memory”.

Norma White

Norma Jean White, 92, Neosho passed away October 22, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born September 21, 1925 in the Sweetwater Community, Newton County, MO to Thomas Edward and Ada Arminta (Paschall) Martin. She was a lifelong area resident, formerly employed at Granby Garment, La-Z-Boy, and Tyson’s.

Visitation will begin at 9 am, prior to services at 10 am, Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Neosho. The Reverend Melvin Stapp will officiate. Interment will follow at Hazel Green Cemetery, Neosho.

Services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.

James Smith

James Ronald Smith, age 81, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital.

James was born January 6, 1936 in Loraine, Illinois, son of the late Leslie Smith and Mary Ellen Wear Smith. He graduated from Minden High School in Minden, Illinois, and then attended Macomb College in Macomb, Illinois. He joined the United States Air Force and served for four years before returning to Illinois where he married Othelia Ruth Hess in October of 1959. The couple moved to the Joplin area in 1971 where he worked in construction as a carpenter. He later began his own business where he began specializing in garage doors. He worked until the age of 80 before retiring.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Smith, who passed away in 2013.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Othelia; daughter, Juanita Smith of Joplin; grandchildren, Jeff Smith of Joplin, Bryan Smith of Colorado, Kris Smith, Tiffany Smith, and Destiny Briscoe all of Joplin; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Roger Smith of Colorado, Terry Smith of Loraine, Illinois; sisters, Shirley Sittrick of Chicago, Illinois, Sharon Smith of Loraine; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jeff D. Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Travis Hensley

Travis Lee Hensley, age 43, Carl Junction, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Mercy Hospital where he was a true fighter to the end.

Travis was born October 7, 1974 in Phoenix, Arizona, son of the late Mike and Sharon Hensley. He grew up in Webb City and graduated from Webb City High School in 1993. He worked in construction as a framer, and also was a Karaoke DJ in Webb City and Carterville. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved being in the woods hunting, or spending time with family and friends fishing. Most recently he worked for Carl Junction Schools as a custodian.

Survivors include his wife, Stacey Ann Witt Hensley whom he married on March 4, 2017; his children, Bailey Hensley, Kaden Cupp, Kiley DuVall, and Kolby Nace; brother, Rick Edens and wife Julie of Carl Junction, sisters, Shannon Hensley and Misty Hensley both of Webb City; mother and father in law, Pam and Gary Doke of Diamond, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, and many friends and other extended family members.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Jeremie Bridges officiating.

The family will visit with friends following the service at Parker Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses, in care of Parker Mortuary.

The family requests that friends and family wear Dallas Cowboy apparel to honor Travis' love of the Cowboys.
