William (Bill) Grant Fehrenbach, 84, of Pittsburg, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 following a long battle with the debilitating effects of ankylosing spondylitis.
Bill was born at home in Baxter Springs, Kansas on May 11, 1938, the son of Mark Ray and Myrtle Mae (Neely) Fehrenbach.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958 and was stationed in Verdun, France. He served during the Cuban Missle Crisis and his service was extended due to the crisis.
He married Carolyn Rose McBride on June 3, 1963, the same date as his college graduation.
Bill worked in IT Operations for Tri-State Motor Transit Company in Joplin, Missouri for thirty years and then was hired by Tamko Roofing Products, also of Joplin, where he retired after 10 years of service. For many years after his retirement, Bill enjoyed monthly meetings for pizza with his former colleagues from work.
Bill delighted in keeping up with the current activities of his beloved grandsons, Andrew, Daniel, and Gabriel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Virginia (Fehrenbach) O’Banion and Betty Fehrenbach Kyrias and his brother, Joseph Ray Fehrenbach.
Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg is in charge of his cremation. At his request, no services are planned. A private inurnment of his cremains will be in the National Cemetery at Fort Scott, Kansas.
