(From Simpson Funeral Home)Bonita J Weaver (Hummer) passed quietly at her home in Purcell, Mo on July 12, 2022.
Bonita was born in Perryton, TX on April 10, 1943 to her loving parents Emmett D Hummer and Geraldine (Jean) Hummer (Bowdle). In 1950, her parents moved the family from Texas to their home in rural Parsons, Ks.
Bonita attended Labette County Community High School and graduated in 1961. She then attended McPherson College in McPherson, Ks. For three years, she studied Elementary Education. It was during this time that Bonita met her future husband, Donald R Weaver.
Donald and Bonita were united in marriage on February 23, 1964 in Parsons Ks. After a lengthy time of ill health, Donald preceded her in death on May 31, 1994.
Between 1984 and 1996, she worked for Chem Staat Labs and Cargill Analytical Services as Office Manager in both Joplin and Neosho Mo. Upon leaving Cargill, she accepted a position at the corporate offices of Leggett and Platt in Carthage, Mo as a member of the Human Resources Department. She retired from Leggett and Platt in 2011.
After her retirement, Bonita enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was particularly proud of all of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and music enthusiast.
Bonita is survived by her three children, Donald L (Lynn) Weaver and wife Jennifer of Webb City, Kenneth R Weaver of Parsons, KS; Andrea M Custis and husband Bill of Purcell; 6 grandchildren- Lynn and Jennifer gave Bonita four grandchildren, Olivia G Steele (Weaver), Christian D Weaver, Jonas A Weaver and Lauren J Weaver; Andrea and Bill gave Bonita two grandchildren, Chantelle (C.C.) C Custis and Dathon D Custis. Other survivors include a brother, Emmett Dean Hummer and his wife Laura (Hucke) and a younger sister Patricia K Ringle and her husband Sam, all of Parsons, KS.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, July 18th at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. A visitation will be held from 10 am until service time. Graveside services will be at Weaver Cemetery in Oronogo.
In honor of her love of books, memorials contributions are suggested to Joplin NALA, in care of the funeral home.
