William “Bill” R. Livingston, age 81, of Joplin passed away on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022 at Joplin Gardens.
Bill was born on October 26, 1940 in Joplin, Missouri, son of the late Thomas C. Livingston and Mary (Waring) Livingston. He grew up in several different cities including; Tulsa, Independence, and Joplin.
He attended Joplin High School and then went on to obtain his Masters in Mathematics at The University of Illinois. He then went on to teach Mathematics at Arkansas State University for several years before moving to Joplin.
In 1968, he began teaching Mathematics at Missouri Southern State College for 41 years, retiring in 2009. He continued on for another year as a part time professor before fully retiring in 2010.
He married the love of his life, Carol Swanson, on January 4, 1975 in Joplin, Missouri. Although they never had any children together, they considered all their pets their children. He was an avid reader. Bill enjoyed yardwork, adult coloring pages, and cycling. He was a people person and loved talking to every person he could. He loved going to Sunday School and reading bible stories to his 4–5-year-old class, as well as coloring with them.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Livingston, of the home; one sister-in-law, Rita Swanson and husband, Sam Lopp, of Joplin; three sisters, Sally Forrest and husband, Bill Forrest, of Eldorado, KS, Becky Livingston, of Columbia, MO, and Jane Fiore, of Columbia, MO; one brother, Steve Livingston, of Arkansas City, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on August 4th, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until service time at Fellowship Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m.
Funeral arrangements are under the special care of Parker Mortuary.
