(From Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home)Wilma Marie Wood, age 85, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Lawrence County Residential Care Center, in Mt. Vernon. She was born January 12, 1937, in Barton County, Missouri, the daughter of Hobart Morris and Ethel Alvina (Kuenning) Vacca.
Wilma was a 1955 graduate of Lamar High School in Lamar, Missouri and a 1958 graduate of St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, Missouri.
Wilma worked as a school nurse for the Mt. Vernon School District retiring in 1997. She was involved in starting the Emergency Services for Children and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.
On March 15, 1959, she married Jerry Dale Wood, in Springfield, Missouri. To this union was born two daughters, Cheryl and Charlotte. Jerry preceded her in death on February 9, 2020.
Wilma is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Sisco and her husband, Charley, of Chadwick, Missouri; three grandchildren, Josh Sisco and his wife, Ashley, of Chadwick, Jeremy Sisco and his wife, Abby, of Ozark, Missouri and Zach Johnson and his wife, Bethany, of Ft. Scott, Kansas; six great-grandchildren, Cole, Finley, Grayson, Luke, Sadie and Lakyn and a host of other family and friends.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Hobart, and Alvina; husband, Jerry; daughter, Charlotte Johnson and brother, Donald Vacca.
Wilma had a passion for helping others and never met a stranger. She will be missed by her family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow at the Goss Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, in the funeral home chapel.
