Donald Jones

(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)

Mr. Donald Lee Jones, 78, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Donald was born on Saturday, February 12, 1944 in LaRussell, Missouri, to the union of the late Homer and Mary (Welsh) Jones. He was a graduate of Sarcoxie High School.

For forty-four years he was employed with MODOT, retiring as a District Supervisor. He was a hard worker and a very dedicated employee.

He was united in marriage to Charlotte Henry in 1963 and later divorced. To this union four children were born.

In school Donnie played football for the Sarcoxie Bears. He wasn't the biggest guy but apparently he could run fast. Donnie was an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening, camping, hunting, fishing, birdwatching and woodworking.

At his home of over fifty years Donnie had large gardens full of all sorts of fruits and vegetables all raised organically. People would stop just to talk to him about the gardens. He also grafted trees, raising multiple varieties on his property along with bee's harvesting the fresh honey. He enjoyed going hunting, fishing, camping and seeing the great outdoors. He loved everything about nature and the great wilderness, going on many hunting trips over the years and having many stories to tell.

Donnie loved reading and drinking black coffee. He said he started drinking coffee when he was about two years old and never stopped! He was always a jokester. He loved nothing more than to tease in his unique way with a dash of his ornery nature thrown in for fun. He loved to chuckle and torment people. He couldn't help himself. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Todd Donald Jones; brothers, Jerry Jones and Joey Jones.

Donald is survived by his children, Annette Jones and wife, Jan, of Independence, Missouri, Aaron Jones and wife, Kim, of Republic and Eric Jones, of Diamond; granddaughter, McKenzie Jones; and great-granddaughter, Estelle Brown; sister Judy Triplett and husband, Larry, of Sarcoxie; mother of his children, Charlotte Jones; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
