Donald E. Pittman, age 73, Joplin, passed away at 9:14 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2020 at Freeman Hospital.
Don was born January 31, 1947 in Pueblo, Colorado to the late Cecil Pittman and Ruby Roller Pittman. He had lived in the Joplin area all of his life.
Don owned and operated Trailer Connection, which he founded in 1993. Don’s true passion was for cooking. He traveled to Italy frequently where he once spent a month learning how to cook several of his favorite dishes while developing close friendships with his new Italian ‘amicos’. Getting to share his creations and teach others how to make those dishes was one of his greatest joys. He will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
Don married Joyce Patty Pittman who was his high school and lifelong sweetheart. She survives at the home. They were married for a remarkable 56 years.
Additional survivors include his children Courtney Pittman, his wife, Liz; Justin Pittman and his wife Gina; grandchildren, Spencer, Jacob, Eli, Luke, Aidan and Lyla; siblings, Patricia Crandall and husband, Albert, Mark Pittman; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by his eldest son, Jeffrey Pittman.
Don was a one of a kind. A loving husband, father, grandfather and held countless other titles including master chef and gardener! He and Joyce were always involved in their children's lives whether it be school or sporting activities where Don coached many of their teams (many people still refer to him as Coach Don or Coach Chuck!). Don was always there to help those in need, especially his family! He was the kind of man that inspired you to be a better person! One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren especially teaching them how to cook or cooking for them! He was always willing to share his knowledge with others, even his competition. In the business world he worked his way up from being a salesman to owning several successful businesses; Trailer Connection being the most recent! He was respected in the business world and people would regularly come to him with questions or problems in their own ventures. He gave the best advice! Don also was a very loving husband to Joyce and they frequently traveled and took adventures to the many places they had dreamed of. They always had a ball, met new people, enjoyed other cultures and cuisine while making the most of every opportunity. Don touched too many lives to mention and left lasting impressions on most everyone he met! He never met a stranger! Don will be missed by all and will leave a void in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in his name to the Joplin Humane Society, your local animal shelter or rescue. His rescue dog Spice was his constant companion and she mourns his passing with the rest of the family.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
