Tom West

Chief Thomas Raymond “Tom” West II, 75 years of age formerly of Goodman, Missouri passed away Friday, June 9, 2023 at Wildwood Communities Skilled Nursing, Joplin, Missouri, where he had been a resident since August 2015.

Tom was born January 27, 1948 to the late Thomas Raymond West, Sr. and Geraldine Vogel, West, Day of Miami, Oklahoma.









Tom was reared in Miami, Oklahoma, later moving to Missouri. Tom served in law enforcement thirty-one years; starting his career in Barry County as a Reserve Officer in 1981. He became a McDonald County Deputy for ten years, McDonald County Undersheriff for four years and Police Chief of Goodman for sixteen years. Tom retired from Law Enforcement on February 5, 2013 due to an illness.

Tom enjoyed teaching, fishing, swimming, building bird houses, mowing lawns, being outdoors, helping animals as well as people. He leaves behind a great legacy of what community policing is all about.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Thomas Raymond West, III from a previous marriage; two stepbrothers, Johnny L. Robertson and Danny C. Robertson, of Miami, Oklahoma; two step-sisters, Gidget Larkin and Terry L. Proctor, both of Miami, Oklahoma.







He is survived by his wife, Olinda Jean (Hocker) West of Grove, Oklahoma after thirty years of marriage; two step-sons, Karl Wayne Beistline and Michael Ray Beistline and wife Jill both of Grove, Oklahoma; two daughters from a previous marriage; Renee Ann Hodge and husband Lenny of Rogers, Arkansas and Holly Jean Chaney and husband Michael of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He has eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Memorial service with full military honors are, 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Haskell Martin officiating.
