(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Virginia May Johnson, passed away on June 18, 2023, after a short illness. She was at home with family when she passed. Virginia was born May 20, 1931, in the Crossroads Community of Stella, Missouri to Orville and Susie May (James) Strickland.
She was married to William Leon Johnson on December 8, 1951, in Independence, Kansas. Three children were born; Bobby Dale Johnson, Joplin, William Larry Johnson, Galena, Kansas, and Alice Jane Hobbs, Joplin.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, 26th and Connecticut, Joplin, MO. Virginia retired from the School District of Joplin R-VIII as a secretary to the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in 1993.
Virginia was preceded in death by her father, mother, brothers; Wayne Strickland, James Strickland, Oscar Lee Strickland, Glenn Strickland, George Strickland, and sisters, Florence Strickland and Elizabeth Strickland Guinn.
She was survived by husband, Leon Johnson, and sons; Bobby Dale Johnson and wife Teri, William Larry Johnson and wife Anna, and only daughter, Alice Jane Hobbs. Five grandchildren; Ashlea Gereleman (James), Branson, Missouri, Austin Johnson, Galena, Joie Bowling (Rick), Kimberlea Jay, Joplin, Veronica Bailey (Shelby), Independence, Missouri, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Stella, Missouri.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
