(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Carole Winifred Burnham, age 79, of Carl Junction, passed away at home on Sunday June 25, 2023.
Carole was born on May 3, 1944, in Joplin, Missouri to the late Reuben and Frances Stripling (Mortensen).
She married the love of her life Richard Burnham on February 7, 1964 in Carl Junction, Missouri.
Carole was saved at Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri when she was nine years old. She began working as a church secretary in high school for Forest Park Baptist Church and The First Baptist Church in Carl Junction, and later at Eastvue Baptist Church in Joplin. She was one of the first teachers at Eastvue Baptist Academy and managed the home school program.
She loved to teach and served as a substitute teacher in many local schools and then full time, teaching K-12 at Eastvue Baptist Academy, where she taught everything from pre-school to advanced math. She even taught some basic piano to some of her students.
She worked at Walmart for many years as an early morning stocker, door greeter and cashier at Joplin’s 15th Street location as well as Webb City’s Store.
She loved to sew, owning her own business making everything from bridal and formal wear to athletic wear and alterations.
She loved studying the Bible and participated in BSF for many years. Her husband was her caregiver, always by her side on her journey with Alzheimer’s dementia.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Frances Stripling, her sisters; Margaret Ida Wibert and Mary Frances Wells, and one brother, Donald Reuben Stripling.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard Burnham, her four children; Jamie Burnham, Wesley Burnham (Kari), Gini Staib (Evert), Joyce Young (Patrick). Her grandchildren; Joe Burnham (Susan), Jessica Burnham (Bo Cane), Ana Young, Sam Young, Risa Young, Melissa Jackson (Kellee), Cassey Box (Dustin Wooden), Krystal Tucker (Kaelan), Jennifer Wagler (Edwin). Great grandchildren; Lincoln Cane, Austin Box, Macie Box, James Walker Jr., Brileigh Tash, Brynlee Tash, Bryer Tucker and Emerson Wagler. Sister, Joyce Walker (Rex). Brother, Gary Stripling (Beth), Sister-in-law Pat Brown, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
We would like to thank Three Rivers Hospice for their incredible care of Mom and our family in her last days.

The visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday June 29th at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday June 30th at Journey Church of Joplin. Pastor John (Chip) Boyd will officiate. Burial will follow at Carl Junction cemetery, in Carl Junction MO.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Joplin Watered Gardens, or The Alzheimer’s Association in care of the mortuary.
