Bill Shuter

(From Ozark Memorial Park Crematory)

William “Bill” Milton Shuter Jr., 81, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023 after a prolonged battle with COPD.

Bill was born on May 12, 1942, to William Milton Shuter Sr., and Marjorie (Bull) Shuter. He graduated from Taft High School in Chicago, Illinois in 1960. He married Lucille Reining in 1963 and had two children, Tracey and Craig.

After their divorce, he married Dorothy (Cooper) Shuter in 1977, and became the stepfather to Angela, Kimberly, and James. They had a daughter together, Roxanne, in 1984.

He owned and operated a printed circuit shop for several years. For about 30 years he and his wife owned and operated restaurants and motels before retiring to Joplin in 2008.

Bill did not have many hobbies, but he did have a small gun collection, and many Zippo lighters. He loved fast cars, he hated red lights and after cleaning motel rooms for so many years, he also very much hated vacuum cleaners. He loved his family more than anything. He was very protective of them. Even from the nursing home, he would call his wife every night to make sure she got home okay and remind her to lock the doors.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his children, James Nash, Kimberly DeGeer, Tracey Shuter, Angela and her husband Randy Southerland, and Roxanne and her husband Matthew Lindley. He is also survived by a whole slew of grandkids, Jennifer and Marson Abo, Valerie and Tommy Swartz, James and Emily Jeck, Steven and Brianna House, Blake Vaughan, Cameron Vaughan, Matthew, Evan, Reagan, and Riley Lindley, and his great grandkids, Macie, Logan, and Isabella Swartz, Nolan, Landon, and Gracen Abo, Amiyah, Natalie, and Elliot Jeck, and Edison and Samuel House. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, his son Craig Shuter, his brother Bruce Shuter, and sister Sandy Metrakos.

There will be a very informal get together at Bill and Dorothy’s house Saturday, July 1, 2023, at noon. There will be a graveside service at the cemetery at 2pm.
