Phyllis Hamilton

Phyllis Jean Hamilton, 88, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away Thursday evening, June 15, 2023, at Sunnyhills Residential Care Facility in Carthage, Missouri. 

Phyllis was born July 26, 1934, in Carthage to Jess E. Downey and Margaret (Frost) Downey.

Phyllis married John “Jack” Hamilton, Jr. on February 22, 1956, in Carthage; Jack preceded her in death on June 27, 2002.

Phyllis was a homemaker and a lifetime Carthage resident. She worked for the late Dr. Catron and Mrs. Catron for many years. Phyllis was a graduate of the Carthage High School Class of 1952. She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Carthage.

Phyllis is survived by her son Ed Hamilton and spouse, Carolyn, of Carthage, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jordan Hamilton and spouse, Heather, of Pullman, Washington and Jenna Hamilton of Carthage, Missouri; and five great grandchildren, Ava, Eabea, Harper, Cyrus, and Noah.

In addition to her husband, Jack, and her parents, Jess and Margaret Downey, Phyllis is preceded in death by five brothers, James Downey, Harold Downey, J.E. Downey, L.J. Downey, and Don Downey and two sisters, Velma E. Marietta and Lorine Clinton.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June2023, 2023 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri with Phyllis’ son, Rev. Ed Hamilton, officiating.
