(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Cheryl Ann Bentlage was born February 11, 1958, in Columbia, Missouri and passed to eternal rest on November 5, 2024 in Joplin, Missouri. She attended elementary school in Texas, Alaska, Illinois, and Oklahoma. In 1977 she graduated with honors from Joplin Memorial High School. Cheryl graduated from Missouri Southern State College with an associates degree in nursing.
During her career she was as a nurse in Missouri, California and Florida. She loved swimming, skiing, horseback riding and golf. She broke several state records in swimming in her division in Alaska. She always maintained that her most favorite memories were riding her horse Pebbles with her friends at the Four Bit Ranch near Joplin during her teenage years. She was an outstanding golfer.
On January 3, 1986, Cheryl was married to Dr. Kevin Harrell, a dentist. They lived near St. Louis and had two beautiful daughters. Later they were divorced.
In 2009, while working as a home health nurse in Florida, Cheryl contracted a contagious disease which led to a critical, stroke-like illness and ultimately resulted in total, permanent disability. She returned to Joplin in 2016 where she has subsequently resided.
Cheryl was predeceased by her mother, Clo Ann Bentlage, her two brothers, Steven and Scott and her sister, Sandra. She is survived by her father, Dr. Charles H. Bentlage and her two daughters-Dr. Taylor Mauriello, a psychologist, her husband, Tony, and son Luca of San Diego, California and by Whitney Hughes, an occupational therapist, and husband, Cody, and their three children, Kane, Hayden and Isla of O’Fallon, Missouri.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Monday November 11, 2024 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary Joplin, Missouri. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Cheryl’s memory are requested to the Community Clinic of Southwest Missouri or to ACCESS Family Care Foundation and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory Joplin, Missouri.
So sad that all three children are now gone. Condolences to the family.
