(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Max William Hoskins, age 83, passed away at 8:40 pm, Thursday, November 13, 2024 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.
Max was born December 26, 1940 in Joplin, Missouri. His parents were William and Maxine (Ragland) Hoskins. Max was a lifetime resident of Galena.
He graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1958. He then continued his education, earning a Masters Degree in Elementary Education at Pitt State University. He taught school and was Principal at Alba Elementary School, Alba, MO for 17 years. Other schools he served as principal were Quapaw, OK, Altoona-Midway KS, Swedeborg, MO and Dora, MO. He retired from Schreiber Foods after working there for 10 years.
Max was a member of the United Methodist Presbyterian Church, Galena, KS. He was also involved in the Galena Mining and Historical Museum.
Max was married to Nellie Russell on August 17, 1968 in Galena, KS. She survives.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Amber Babb (Chris), Joplin, MO; two sons, Russell Hoskins (Lindsay), Joplin, and Jonathan Hoskins, Springfield, MO; two sisters, Aliece Kronawetter (Hans), Dresslerville, NV. and Carla Churchill, The Villages, FL; two sister-in-laws, Sally Heiser (David), Garden City, KS and Jennyne Russell, Joplin; and five grandchildren, Kara Howerton, Jace Hoskins, Joel Hoskins, Jax Hoskins, and Maddie Hoskins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Joel Hoskins.
Graveside service will be held Saturday November 23, 2024 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus, KS at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Galena Mining and Historical Museum.
