(From Clark Funeral Home)Rodrick Drew Peregoy, 106 years old, of Joplin, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on November 23, 2024. He was born in Pineville, Missouri to William and Melissa Peregoy on August 13, 1918. Rod accepted Christ as his Savior as a young man and was a member of Diamond Christian Church.
Rod graduated from Pineville High School in 1939. He then graduated college at Southwest Missouri state in Springfield, Missouri and then to graduate school at Missouri University at Columbia, Missouri majoring in agriculture and mathematics.
Rod began his career as a high school math teacher at Stella, Missouri until World War 2 broke out where upon he joined the United States Marine Corp where he ranked as a Corporal in Communications. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre and was one of the Marines that trained the Navaho Wind Talkers.
He worked as a bacteriologist for Pet Milk Company for 17 years, then later became head of the Food Stamp Program for Newton County Family Services where he retired in 1982.
After leaving the service in 1945, a new journey was about to start, he returned home and started working at the Agriculture Extension Department at the Newton County Courthouse. This is where he met his beloved Grace Marie. Rod and Grace were united in marriage January 20, 1950. Together they shared a loving and beautiful life together for 72 years.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Wilma Cleveland, and his infant brother George.
He will be dearly missed by his devoted children Eddie Peregoy of Lebanon, Missouri, Coleen Pettit of Neosho, Missouri, Karen Russel of Joplin, Missouri, Miles Peregoy of Grain Valley, Missouri, four sister-in-laws, Dorothy Cupps of Neosho Missouri, Sue Ferguson of Joplin, Missouri, Daisy Brownstein of Greensboro, North Carolina, Ruby Brown of Harrisonville, Missouri,
his special nephew Bill Cleveland of Lanagan, Missouri, and his 7 beloved grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
