A. L. Bechhold, Jr. peacefully passed to the Lord on May 14, 2014, at the age of 91. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Wanda June Bechhold. Also surviving are sister, Doris Brock, of Missouri; son, Dennis Bechhold and his wife, Donna, of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Carol Robertson and her husband, Keith, of Monroe, La.; son, Craig Bechhold and his wife, Nancy, of Craig, Colo.; daughter, Teresa Hill, of San Antonio; and son, Kevin Bechhold. In addition to sons and daughters, A.L. had 10 grandchildren, Michelle Neber, Melissa Rust, Cynthia Hawkins, Alicia VanBuren, Bradley Robertson, Amie Wheeler, Kipp Bechhold, Lisa Bechhold, Kyle Bechhold, Courtney Cross; and many greatgrandchildren; and greatgreat- grandchildren.
Born on Feb. 18, 1923, A. L. was a long-time resident of the Joplin area. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a deacon and treasurer for many years. During World War II he served in the Navy as a Torpedoman and an Investigator and performed shorepatrol duties. He was also a life-long member of the VFW. Following the war, he worked as a Ford mechanic in Joplin until his retirement. Some of A. L.'s interests included hunting, fishing, shooting skeet, playing his organ, riding his beloved horses Blondie and Mindy and in his younger years, pitching for a local softball team. Two of his most memorable trips were to Hawaii, where he and June had gone to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and to the World War II Memorial, which he visited with family members. In the latter months of his life, he enjoyed going out into the sunshine and strolling the grounds of the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home where he could eat the fresh, sweet pecans that had fallen from the trees.
Though A. L. will be dearly missed, he leaves his family memories of many special moments. He was devoted to his family.
Services are planned for Monday, May 19, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Parker Mortuary, Joplin. Pastor Phillip McClendon will be officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Parker Chapel on May 19.

Mike Howard

Charles Michael “Mike” Howard, age 75, of Joplin, passed away Tuesday May 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Charles Michael “Mike” Howard, age 75, of Joplin, passed away Tuesday May 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mike was born on January 10, 1939 in Joplin, the son of the late Charles and Louise (Scheurich) Howard. His mother passed away at a young age and he was raised by his father and step-mother Ruth Howard, in Kansas City, Mo. Mike attended high school on Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya while his father served in the Corp of Engineers. He returned to Joplin in the early 1960’s and attended Joplin Junior College. He met and married Susan Shapiro on March 13, 1963 in Kansas City, Mo. Together they raised three children. He worked as a sales manager for the Joplin Globe, Gus Shafer Ford, and Roper Pontiac. He retired in 2005. He attended the United Hebrew Congregation of Joplin. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Lion’s Club, the Tri-State Boat Club, Joplin Little League, and various Booster Clubs.
Mike is survived by two sons, Greg Howard and wife Lisa, Joplin, and Joe Howard, Broken Arrow, Ok.; one daughter, Gwynn Caruthers, Carl Jct., Mo.; two sisters, Pat Payne, Kansas City, Mo., and Donna Church and husband Garry, Carl Jct., Mo.; and four grandchildren, Drew Caruthers, Alysha Howard, Ross Howard, and Annie Howard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Howard in 2006; and his dear aunt, Ruth “Fuf’ Teutsch.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Charlotte’s Angels, Amedisys Home Healthcare, and Hospice Compassus for the care given to Mike. Also, to numerous family and friends for stopping by to see him.

Janice Tanner

Janice Tanner, 76, Webb City was welcomed home by God after a lengthy illness on May 12, 2014. Born to Kenneth and Nathalee Smith on February 10, 1938 in Joplin, MO, she was a lifelong resident of the Joplin-Neosho area. Janice was a full-time mother who enjoyed collecting antiques and restoring old houses. She was employed at Fraley Funeral Supply for several years.
Janice served her Lord as an active member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church for many years.
She was married to the love of her life, Drexal (Rex) Tanner for 55 years. He preceded her in death on Sept 14, 2009.
Janice is survived by two daughters, Linda Hayes (Kevin) of Webb City with whom she shared her home, Ellon Darr (Mike) of Joplin. Two sons, Stephen Tanner (Judy) of Joplin, and Tim Tanner of Houston, TX. Six Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren and one on the way. Two sisters, Edwina Cohen, Joplin, and Bonnie Grey, Drakesboro, KY. Several nieces and nephews and her faithful dog, Buddy.
A memorial visitation will be held, Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 6:30 - 7:30 at Harmony Heights Baptist Church, 20th and Indiana, Joplin, MO A private family graveside will be held in Neosho IOOF Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to Martin Luther School, C/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850-0066. Teresa Clark
Teresa Ann Gray Clark, age 53 of Joplin, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 after a battle with cancer.
Teresa was born June 25, 1960 to Gary and Shelby Lively Clark in Kalamazoo, MI. Her father preceded her in death on December 31, 2013.
Teresa attended the Sperry, OK public schools. She was a Shop Manager for Travel Centers of America, and a member of Greenwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Shelby Clark of the home; son, Joshua Bundy and wife Kelly of Seville, OH; sister, Judy McCaslin and husband Leon of Neosho; brother, Jeff Clark and partner Bill Duncan of Broken Arrow, OK; aunts, Nancy Lee and husband Wayne of Huntsville, AR, Janice Lively of Golden, MO; uncle George Clark of Gentry, AR; grandchild, Brixon Bundy; step-grandchildren, Lezjon, Skyelar and Julian Mantz; several nieces and nephews and other extended family that will dearly miss her.
Services are planned for Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Parker Chapel. Public visitation will be Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 6-7pm in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Freeman Cancer Center in care of the mortuary.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Brenda and Avalon Hospice for going above and beyond.

Lee Aaron Sill, age 64 of Joplin, passed away at 5:05 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born December 17, 1949 in Joplin, he was the son of the late William Henry Sill and Mildred June Webb Sill and lived in the Joplin area his lifetime. He worked 18 years for George Parker Alignment in Joplin, before becoming disabled.
Survivors include his sister, Terri Bettes and husband Rick of Joplin; two nieces and a nephew.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Private graveside services will be held at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Albert Volkman
Albert Lee Volkman, age 63 of Joplin, passed away at his residence on Saturday, May 10, 2014.
Albert was born August 10, 1950 to the late Jewel and Ossie Humphrey Volkman in Spring City, Missouri. Albert worked in the concrete business most of his life, working with his brother.
He married Brenda Duckett on June 24, 1994 in Miami, OK, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include three daughters, Cherie Volkman and husband Ray, Chasity Taft and husband Joshua, Cassidy Febres and husband Arnaldo, all of Joplin; three sons, Steven Volkman of Neosho, Matthew Volkman and partner Ronald of Joplin, Joshua Taft and wife Brenda of Joplin; brothers, Carl Volkman and wife Vicki of Pineville, MO, Butch Johnson and wife Pam of Joplin, Claude Volkman, August Volkman and Gabe Volkman; sisters, Violet Phillips of Joplin, Opal Marney and husband Ed of Joplin, Alice Allen and husband Boyd of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Albert was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Volkman and one sister, Kathy White.
A family memorial service is planned for Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the family home.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.

Jack Lundstrum

Jack “Swede” Lundstrum, age 80, of Webb City, Mo. passed away at 6:53 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin following a lengthy illness. Jack was born July 27, 1933 in Joplin, Mo. to Rudolph and Laura Lundstrum. He graduated from Joplin High School and received his Master’s Degree from Pittsburg State University. He taught Math at Pitt State for 2 years, and then worked for the Census Bureau for another 2 years in Parsons, Kansas. He worked for the Sperry-Vickers Corp. in Joplin for 28 years, retiring in 1988. He served his country for 4 years in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. Jack lived most of his life in Webb City and was an avid Webb City Cardinal fan. He enjoyed gardening with his best friend and neighbor, James Francisco and wife Doris.
Jack married Carolyn Selby February 20, 1959 in Webb City and she survives. Additional survivors include a son, Todd Lundstrum, Webb City, a daughter, Tami Byrd and husband Eric, Duenweg, Mo., two brothers, Don and Bob Lundstrum, both of Joplin, two granddaughters, Chelsie “Pete” Poulston and husband C.R., Cabool, Mo., and Lexi “Sweet Pea” Byrd, Duenweg, three great grandsons, Evan Counts, Ashton Poulston, and Max Poulston, all of Cabool, Mo. Jack was preceded in death by a son, Jack Lee Lundstrum, two brothers, Rudy and Bill Lundstrum, and three sisters, Betty Cox, Dottie Grumbles, and twin, Mary Barwick. Jack loved his children and grandchildren. They were the world to him. He will be greatly missed by all.
Jack’s wishes were to be cremated. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin with Rev. John Swadley officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Assoc. in care of the Funeral Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home of Webb City, Mo.
