Virginia May Parker passed away peacefully Friday morning, Feb. 2, 2018 of congestive heart failure under the loving care of Regional Hospice and Joplin Gardens Nursing Home staff. She was age 95, the daughter of George Lafayette and Violet Viola (Trusler) Ball, born Aug. 17, 1922, in Joplin, Missouri, a lifelong resident.
Virginia was pre-deceased in death by her husband of 61 years, Loran Parker, Jr., in 2001, and her daughter LaRaine Rother in 2013. She is survived by her son Larry Parker and his wife Ida of Oak Island, North Carolina, three granddaughters: Michelle Parker of Springfield, Andrea Keune and husband Glen of St. Louis, Nicole Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; and one grandson Stacy Egbert and wife Marianna of Conroe, Texas. Combined they have blessed Virginia with seven great-grandchildren.
Virginia graduated from Joplin High School in 1940. She lived a full life devoted to her family, church and friends. After raising her children, Virginia worked for 18 years as head cook at Eastmorland Elementary School in Joplin. She and son Larry shared a life-long hobby of collecting family photos, stories, news and genealogy history . Her legacy was some 20 family photo and clipping albums spanning 150 years. The family tree on Ancestry.com includes over 6,000 people and 1100 photos.
Family will receive friends on Monday, February 5, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Following prayer, the family will proceed to Forest Park Cemetery for burial next to Loran’s military grave. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Joplin Humane Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
