(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)Mr. Johnie Richard Bacon, 75, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, formerly of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Friday, July 1, 2022, while at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, after a brief illness.
Johnie entered this life on March 22, 1947, in Webb City, Missouri, the eldest of four children born to the late William Andrew and Dixie Jewell (Lambeth) Bacon. He was raised in Jasper, Missouri and was a 1966 graduate of Jasper High School.
Following high school, Johnie enlisted and served his country faithfully in the United States Navy during Vietnam.
After returning home from the service, he enrolled in the drafting department at MSSC in Joplin. On August 21, 1971, he was untied in marriage to Rose Ann Dannelley and to this union one son, Andrew was born. His work history included Cardinal Scales in Webb City and the City of Joplin. He enjoyed fishing and collecting model farm tractors and equipment. Johnie was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church in Joplin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of forty-one years, Rose Ann Bacon on January 3, 2014.
Johnie is survived by his son, Andrew Bacon and fiancé Katie Clark of Carl Junction; a grandson, Ruari Bacon; a brother, Jerry Bacon and wife, Patsy, of Joplin; two sisters, Sally Martin of Pea Ridge, Arkansas and Patricia Ryan of New Hampton, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin with Father Ted Estes officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Jerry Bacon, David Gilbert, Sam Hook, Joel Dannelley, Greg Ulmer and Leslie Lambeth.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Memorials are being directed to the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon c/o the mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
