Patricia King

Patricia R. King, of Lockwood, MO, departed this life on Saturday, July 2, 2022, in the Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehabilitation Facility at the age of 79.

She was born on September 12, 1942 in Greenfield, MO to John Emmitt and Ruby Fern (Chappell) Christner. 

After graduating high school in Lockwood, MO, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Missouri. Patricia also received a Master of Science Degree in Family and Child Development from Kansas State University and a Master of Science Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Central Missouri State University.

Patricia began her work experience during 7th grade by assisting the lab technician at Lockwood Memorial Hospital. She also worked at the local drive-in restaurant her parents operated. She taught Family and Consumer Sciences for 31 years in the North Kansas City School District. 

After retiring, from teaching at the age of 53, she enjoyed international travel. Patricia also enjoyed participating in bridge club, book club, bible study, Knitting-4-Peace, Questers, Red Hats, political groups, and Greater Kansas City Family and Consumer Sciences Association. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed serving others.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Horton “Junior” King; one son, Christopher King; and her parents, John and Ruby Christner.

She is survived by one son, John King and wife Debbie of Platte Woods, MO; three grandsons, Tyler Hollenkamp of Eau Claire, WI, Michael King of Toledo, OH, and John Alexander King of Platte Woods, MO; one sister, Elaine Kaelke of Lockwood, MO; one brother, John Keith Christner of Temple, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Lockwood United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends an hour before time at the church. Inurnment will be at Bona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 14411 NE Englewood Rd., Kansas City, MO 64118, the Lockwood United Methodist Church, or to the donor’s choice. Services are under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
