Glen Gilmore

Glen Robert Gilmore, age 84 of Joplin, Mo. passed away early Friday, November 7, 2014 at Freeman Hospital following a sudden illness.

 Glen was born on November 23, 1929 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Mr. & Mrs. Glen B. Gilmore. In his life experiences, Glen was a minister and member of LifePoint Church in Joplin. He built homes in Texas, Minnesota and Missouri. He worked for Frisco Railroad and Kansas City Southern, retiring from Robinson Transportation in Little Rock, Ar. in 1989. Glen became a farmer in Altus, Ar. where he had a large vineyard and peach orchard. In 1996, he built a home in rural Aurora, Mo. In 2005, Glen and Irene purchased a new home in Joplin where they were active in their church and lived until Glen’s passing. Glen’s loves were God and family, old cars, Toyotas, Michelin Tires and car deer horns. 

He married Irene Simpson-Sparkman on January 9, 1988, she survives. Additional survivors include three sons; David Gilmore and his wife Diane of Parker, Tx., Dennis Gilmore of Eden Prairie, Mn., John Gilmore and his wife Dawnette of Maple Grove, Mn., two daughters; Sandra Robertson and her husband James of Joplin, Deborah Johnston and her husband Harold also of Joplin, one sister; Betty Ruth of Kansas City, Mo., thirteen grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Glen was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Colleen Gilmore. 

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at LifePoint Church at 1700 South Prosperity Ave. in Joplin. Reverend Rex Robertson and Pastor Tony Stoddart, will officiate. Burial will follow at Marionville IOOF Cemetery in Marionville, Mo. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
