Mickey Hemphill

Michael Earl “Mickey” Hemphill, age 56 of Joplin, passed away at 12:28 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at his home as a result of an accidental house fire.

Born July 22, 1958 in Miami, OK, he lived in the Miami and Joplin areas his lifetime. Mickey served a four-year term in the U.S. Navy and received the Good Conduct Medal. An Industrial Electrician, he graduated vocational school and became a Journeyman Electrician with IBEW Local No. 95. He was a member of Southeast Baptist Church in Miami, where he was baptized April 26, 2009. Mickey loved the outdoors, particularly fishing and duck hunting. He was devoted to his family.

On August 22, 1992 he married Amy Lynn Newman at Miami. She survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Bailey Hemphill of Miami; a son, Nick Hemphill of the home; his father, Jim Hemphill of Joplin; two brothers, Andy and Tony Hemphill, both of Joplin; nieces and nephews, Jessie Gonzales and husband Steven of Gore, OK, Dacoda Hemphill of Joplin and Raven Hemphill of Wichita, KS.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Peggy Louise Chambers Blair; and stepmother, Charlene Hemphill.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at Southeast Baptist Church in Miami, after which, the family will receive friends. Private interment will be in Glen Abbey Cemetery in Miami. Memorial contributions may be made to Southeast Baptist Church of Miami or American Cancer Society, in care of the mortuary
