Shirrell L. “Lil Mick” Cortez II, 50, of Carthage, passed away November 16, 2014.
Shirrell was born May 13, 1964 in Carthage, MO to Shirrell “Mick” L. Cortez Sr. and Emma Lee Adams. Shirrell was a lifetime Carthage resident, he worked for Convenient Store Services for the past 8 years and Safeway Cheese in Carthage for 15 years. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Love horseback riding, the beach and working on cars, swimming and cheesy sci-fi Movies.
Shirrell is survived by four sons Shirrell L Cortez III of Carthage, Derek E Cortez of Joplin, Kirby V. Cortex of Oklahoma City, and Anthony M. Turk of Carthage, two grandchildren Bryson Trammell “Cortez and RyLynn Elizabeth Cortez, and his ex- wife Elizabeth Shields of Carthage. Shirrell is also survived by a long time companion Rene’ Roberson and her three children and five grandchildren Jackson, Wyatt, Kyler, Liam, and Lennox. One brother Terry L Cortez, six sisters Cynthia Shiver, Linda Cortez, Melanie Gooch, Charlene Cortez, Dawn Combs, Erica Cortez many nieces and nephews. Shirrell is preceded by his parents, one brother Richard Albert Cortez of Carthage. He will be missed for his quiet demeanor, his beautiful smile and his great sense of humor and his extreme kindness to others.
Services will be 6:00 p.m. Friday November 21, 2014 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday November 20, 2014 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Contributions will be to the Shirrell L. Cortez II memorial fund at Arvest bank in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
