Mrs. Mary Iris Crane, 70, of Joplin, Missouri, a retired educator, departed this life on Monday evening, January 14, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.
Mary entered this life on October 24, 1948, in Joplin, Missouri, daughter of the late Ira “Buck” and Katherine (Baggerly) Howard. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1966 graduate of Seneca High School. She furthered her education at the former Joplin Junior College. On September 11, 1967, she was united in marriage to Douglas Crane and to this union on son was born. Mary was a teacher for over thirty-four years. She began her career at College View State School, later transferring to Joplin R-8 Early Childhood, retiring in 2012. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a Mercy Hospital Gift Shop Volunteer. She enjoyed reading and watching Cardinal Baseball.
Her parents and one brother, Claude Martin, preceded her in death.
Mary is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Doug Crane, of the home; a son, Danny Crane, also of the home; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday morning, January 17, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin, Missouri. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Salvation Army or Meals on Wheels in care of the mortuary.
