Carl Cox

Carl G. Cox, age 79, of Joplin, MO, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Freeman Hospital, following a fulfilled life.

Carl was born on July 2, 1943, in Joplin, the son of the late Virgil and Edith (Hunt) Cox. He has been a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1960. He married Carlene Gunlock on March 30, 1963, in Joplin and together they were blessed with two children.

He owned and operated Walker's Drive Inn before starting in the car business in 1967 at Roper Pontiac. 








In 1979 he started C. Cox Auto Sales, Inc., on 7th Street in Joplin. He was a member of the Joplin Elks Lodge, and he was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carlene Cox on December 23, 2011; and three brothers, Howard Lee Cox, Gary Steven Cox and his wife Mary Lou Cox, and Archie “Lynn” Cox.

Carl is survived by his son Kyle Cox and wife Sara, Joplin; his daughter, Carrie Cox, Lee’s Summit, MO; his companion, Shirley Albright, Joplin; his beloved grandchildren, Grasyn Cox, Kylyn Cox, and Chloe Cox; two brothers, Stanley Cox and wife Joyce, Carl Jct., MO, and Virgil Cox and wife Shirley, Joplin; a sister-in-law, Barbara Cox, Joplin; and many beloved nieces and nephews.








Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be, Jeff Cox, Brad Cox, Kelly Gunlock, Kevin Gunlock, Kendall Gunlock, Jason Cox, and David McCully.

The visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Joplin Elk’s Lodge in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
