Delbert Rose

(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)

Rev. Delbert “Wayne” Rose, 83 of Carthage, Mo passed to his heavenly home on Friday, June 9, 2023 at NHC in Joplin, Mo after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s.

Born at home August 14, 1939 to Loren and Nellda (Devers) Rose, Wayne was the youngest of seven. His mother said that God told her he would be a preacher.

Growing up in the countryside surrounding Carthage, he rode horses all over the area with his brother Allan.

A class of 1957 graduate of Sarcoxie High School, Wayne served in the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune from 1958-1962. Returning home to marry “the most beautiful woman in the world,” he proposed to Pauline Haley on their very first date. Though she initially declined his proposal, the two were married on November 23, 1963. To this union 2 children were born; daughter Hally Christine Rose and son Heath Tyson Rose.

Although he struggled with the call to preach, Wayne finally surrendered and accepted that call on his life. In 1964 he headed to Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Co. While in college he traveled and sang with the Harvesters Quartet where his tenor voice earned him the nickname “Sister Rosie.”

Graduating in 1971, Wayne began pastoring in December of that same year at Monett Church of the Nazarene. During his time in Monett he was very active in the community, serving as President for the Kiwanis Club, Ministerial Alliance, and volunteer Firefighter and Chaplain. He also served as Joplin District Children’s Camp Director at Camp Sagmount for five years. In August of 1987 he resigned his pastoral position and moved to Olathe, Ks in order to pursue full-time Evangelism and was privileged to hold Revival meetings all across the United States including several tours in Alaska.

After 20 years of traveling, Wayne thought it was time to return home to Carthage, a new house, and expectations of retirement. Little did he know that God had other plans; his work was not done. In 2006 he began pastoring the Sarcoxie Nazarene Church, leading it through a sale, building campaign and fresh start in a new location and brand new facility aptly named Sarcoxie New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene. There he served as Pastor until his retirement in 2021 due to health concerns.

In 2018 he was selected to participate in the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, DC. accompanied by his son, Heath. Wayne said his favorite part was the “Changing of the Guard” ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. It was the opportunity of a lifetime and he was grateful he was to be able to make that trip.

His Family meant the world to him. He lived by example; it was Jesus first, Family Second, then others. He spent a lot of time horseback riding with his son, Heath, and enjoying the Cowboy way. He was a great jokester and storyteller and loved people. Wayne never met a stranger and would witness to everyone that crossed his path. To be with Wayne for any time at all was to know joy, laughter, a sense of belonging, and the love of Jesus. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Pauline Rose; daughter, Hally Pittman, Carthage, Mo; son, Dr. Heath (Nichole) Rose DVM, Loch Lloyd, Mo; three brothers: Volley (Juanita) Rose, Carthage Mo; Carl (Darlene) Rose; Webb City, Mo; Allan (Betty) Rose, Webb City, Mo; three sisters: Delores Baker, Norma Jean (Bob) Compton, Lois Ring, all of Carthage, Mo; five grandchildren: Casey (Kristin) Pittman, Megan (Luke) Pedersen, Sierra Wise, Ben Pittman, and London Rose; three great- grandchildren: Liam Wise, Emma and Lucy Pedersen; plus extended family and friends, including Gary and Marla Shank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Nellda Rose, grandparents, Charles “Fletch” and Flora Rose, Houstin Bentley and Sarah Jane Devers, son-in- law, Rev. Kevin Pittman, four brothers-in-law, Kenneth Ring, Ed Baker, Harold and Paul Haley, three sisters-in-law, Louise Rose, Lois Madden, Shirley Haley, and one nephew, Todd Rose.

Visitation is scheduled from 6-9pm on Friday June 16, 2023 at the Carthage Nazarene Church, Carthage, Mo. Funeral services will be held at Carthage Nazarene Church at 10 am Saturday, June 17, 2023 with Rev. Rick Thomason and Rev.
