Tim Sowersby

Tim Leroy Sowersby, 91, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, at National Healthcare.

Born on October 18, 1933, in Joplin, Missouri. Tim was the son of Vince & Helen Sowersby. He grew up in Joplin, Missouri.








Tim joined the Navy in 1951 right after graduating from Joplin High School. He served in Korea aboard the U.S.S. Consulation as a corpsman.

Tim married Leta Lawson on February 14, 1953 and together they shared 66 years of love and devotion. They had 4 children: Krystal, Tim, Vicki, and Karla.

After his military service he drove a truck for IGA. Tim along with his wife Leta ran the, Powell General Store for 8 years and he also worked as electrician. They resided in the Joplin area their whole lives.

He was known for telling jokes and stories, pulling practical jokes and his elaborate Halloween parties. He was hardworking and loved raising his cattle and working around the farm in Hornet. He also loved collecting antiques.








He was preceded in death by his wife Leta and his son and daughter Tim and Karla. Tim is survived by his three sisters: Carolyn Ballard, Dixie Carver, & Linda Davis. Also his sister in law , Lera Dill. He is also survived by his 2 daughters Krystal Jones and Vicki Roark as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and dear friends and loved ones.

Visitation will be held at Mason Woodard Mortuary at 9:30 am Saturday November 16th. A graveside service will follow at 11am at Hornet Cemetery. The family invites those who knew Tim to join them in celebrating his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fairview Baptist Church or Hornet Cemetery.
