Shirley Haggard

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Shirley Ann Haggard, 87, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the cherished family members who meant so much to her.

Shirley was born on December 19, 1938, in Lockwood, Missouri, to David and Irene (Cameron) Mason. She graduated from Lockwood High School in 1956, and began early jobs at Red's Cafe, Scott's Diner, and Carthage Creamery. She also enjoyed working at Big Smith and Juvenile Shoes before becoming a homemaker and devoting her life to her family and home.

Shirley was blessed with two children, Doug and Brent, to her first marriage. On November 24, 1978, she married her beloved husband, Cecil Haggard. Together, they built a life filled with family, hard work, and their farm.

Shirley was a woman of strong character and an even stronger will. She was stubborn when she needed to be, determined in everything she did, and believed that hard work and a sharp mind could take you far. She took great pride in caring for her home and farm, keeping everything immaculate and well maintained.

She loved her cattle and took great pride in tending to them. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, deep blue, and snowmen. Most of all, she treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether she was in the kitchen, gathered around the table playing board games, checking cattle, or cutting wood, Shirley found joy in the simple moments of life with the people she loved.

She is survived by her sons, Doug Lee and wife Terry of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Brent Lee and wife Kelly of Carthage, Missouri; stepdaughter, Karen Boden of Anthony, Kansas; and stepson, Tom Haggard.

She leaves behind five grandchildren: Courtney Engelhardt and husband Nick; Chance Lee and wife Stephanie; Brian Lee and wife Kate; Chelsey Hood and husband Chance; and Kevin Lee and wife Emily; Allen Finley and wife Michelle; and Katie Lacey.

She was also a beloved Great-Grandma to Katherine, Michael, and Alexandra Engelhardt; Zoiee, Harlee, and Waylon Lee; Emma and Jackson Lee; Paxton Hood; and Elijah Lee.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence, Herschel, and Roy Mason; and her beloved husband, Cecil.

Shirley's legacy will live on in the family she loved so fiercely, the values she taught, and the countless memories made through a lifetime of hard work, laughter, family, and simple days spent together. She was one of a kind, and she will be deeply missed.

Shirley is in the care of Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri. Per her wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
