Floyd Rice, 90, passed away at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his home in Carthage.
He was born October 11, 1923 to Joseph Rice and Lucy “Lowe” Rice in Jasper, Missouri. Floyd served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. The summer of 1957 Floyd left the Navy and settled in Hawthorn, California before returning the Carthage in 1994. He was a journeyman, painter, and contractor in Hawthorn for over 30 years. Floyd was a member of the 32 degree Masons and the Shriners-Scottish Rite.
Floyd married Evelyn Spurgeon on December 23, 1948 in Carthage. She survives. Survivors include five children William Rice and wife Monica of Golden City, Joe Rice and wife Jerri of Carthage, Diana Bjorklund and husband Richard of Joplin, Debra Rice of Carthage, and James Rice and wife Carolyn of Hawthorn, California; two sisters Leona Cherry of Carthage, and Iva Jones of Phoenix, Arizona; twelve grandchildren Christy Kilpatrick, Kathryn Deer, Kelly Gustafson, Lucy Washburn, Hollie Lee, James Rice, Eric Rice, Russell Rice, Ryan Rice, Michael Rice, Joshua Rice, and Matthew Rice; and eighteen great grandchildren Abigail, Emma, and Calvin Kilpatrick, Alexandrya, Ryan, Nicholas, and Devyn Deer, Allison, Montana, Madelyn, and Grace Washburn, Brynna, Amara, Dawson, Jenna, and Scarlett Lee, Terrance Rice, and Violet Rice. Floyd was preceded by his parents, three brothers Harold, Arthur, and Myron Rice, two sisters Helen and Blanche, and one grandson Charles E. Rice.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Paradise Cemetery, Jasper, Missouri.
