Ralph D. Wofford, age 88, of Carl Junction went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 24, 1925 in Springfield, Missouri to Frank M. Wofford and Minerva Forgey Wofford. Ralph was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church. He began his employment with Empire District Electric Company on August 9, 1948 as a Lineman Fourth Class in Springfield and ended his 39 year career with them on January 22, 1987 as a Supervisor of Relay Construction and Maintenance. Ralph served in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer 2nd Class Electrician.
During his tour of duty, he served in the South Pacific and participated in invasions of the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Guam, Tinian, Palau, Okinawa and the Philippines. Following his discharge in 1946 Ralph worked as a Lineman Crew Sub-Foreman for Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
He married Dolores Davies on January 10, 1948 in Oakland, California and she survives at the home. Ralph is also survived by his children, Ralph Thomas and wife Lauren, Janet Austin and husband Kenny, Tim Wofford and wife Myra, JoAnne Peternell and husband Dennis; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Frank, Harold, and Harry Wofford.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home in Carl Junction with Reverend Joe Morris officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 AM to service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Carl Junction Cemetery.
