Floyd Joseph Sill, age 86 of Joplin, passed away at 6:07 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Mercy Hospital after a long hard-working life.
Born January 13, 1927 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Dewey and Ethel Sill, he graduated from Joplin High School and lived in the Joplin area his lifetime. Floyd co-owned and operated Ozark Service Station on Main Street for over 40 years. The past 10 years he was a driver for the Fletcher dealership. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of the World War II Last Man’s Club and American Legion Post No. 13. Floyd also called square dances for the Western Twirlers.
On December 24, 1946 he married Billye D. Hagensicker at Columbus, KS. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2004. A brother, Lloyd and a sister, Vera, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Jayne Munday and husband Sam of Purdy, MO, Dana Neidert of Joplin, Gena Tucker and husband Steve of Joplin; a son, Joe Sill and wife Wendi of Joplin; four siblings, Verna Johnson, Lavita Kersey and Flo Howard, all of Joplin, Lorena Endicott of Santa Maria, CA; seven grandchildren, Kassie and Chris McCleary, both of Joplin, Josh Copher of Joplin, Josh Tucker of Huntington Beach, CA, Kolby Tucker of Joplin, Newton Neidert of Rochester, MN and Trey Neidert of Parker, CO; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Rosie Knight.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary where private family services will be held. Interment will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Joplin Humane Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
