Alfred Joseph (Joe) Gourley, age 80 of Galena, KS, passed away at 10:35 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
Born September 2, 1933 in Kansas, he was the son of the late Ira George Gourley and Eva Leford Gourley and had lived in Galena the past 40 years. He worked in maintenance for Fleming Food and was a member of the Teamsters’ Union. He married Dorothy McClain Gourley. She survives.
Additional survivors include two stepdaughters, Karen Channel and husband Bill of Joplin, Kathy Porter and husband Dave of Galena; stepson, Joe Paluskas and wife Shannon of Coopersville, MI; son, Gene Davies of Caldwell, KS; two sisters, Peggy Bellamey and husband Alvin of Galena, Mary Collins of Galena; two brothers, Jack Gourley and wife Judy of Galena, Keith Gourley of Baxter Springs, KS; six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Kenny Gourley and wife Diana of Galena. In addition to his parents, a brother, Roy Gourley and two sisters, Virginia Theel and Gleane Channel Killion, preceded him in death.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Private services will be held at a later date.
