Rance Miguel ‘Mikey’ Mata, age 37, Joplin, passed away at 10:11 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Freeman West E.R. from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Rance was born July 30, 1976 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Dolores Lole Mata and Cleta Sexton Mata and had lived in Joplin for several years.
‘Mikey’, as he was known to his family and friends, worked for several years at Hampshire Pet Products. He was a member of the Choctaw Nation Tribe. He had many friends and will be missed by all that knew him.
Survivors include his companion, Tracy Gazaway, Joplin; his son, Zachary M. Mata, Joplin; two sisters, Tonya Mata and Jeanetta Fixico, both of Joplin; his parents, Cleta Mata and Dolores Lole Mata, Oklahoma; paternal grandmother, Cruz Lopez Mata; nephews, Junior Maturino, Marco Maturino, Joseph Martinez, Sequoyah Fixico Aunt Lena Maturino of Oklahoma; cousins, Tina and Phillip Reitz and children Erika and Baby, Victoria Maturino.
Mikey was preceded in death by a niece, Catherine Fixico; grandparents, Rev. Daniel and Catherine Sexton; paternal grandfather, Isabella Mata; and best friend, Luis Carlos Maturino.
Services are planned for Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Byers Avenue United Methodist Church, 1730 S. Byers Ave. Rev. George Triplett will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Junior Maturino, Marco Maturino, Daniel (Perico) Mata, Joseph Martinez, Phillip Reitz and Baby Reitz. Honorary pallbearers will be George Triplett, Jr., DeLonte Triplett, Adrian DeCarlo, Doug Derrick, Josh Reitz, Javier Mata and Billy Martin. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ‘Bubby Account’ (Zachary Mata) at any Joplin Metro Credit Union location, or care of Parker Mortuary.
Family also requests that any food contributions be taken to the church for the family meal following the graveside service on Saturday.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
