David Lynn Worden, age 58, of Joplin, went home to the Lord on Monday January 7, 2014, at his home following a sudden illness.
David was born on October 29, 1955 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Robert Worden and Betty (Powers) Cain. He has been an area resident most of his life. He married Debbie Shepherd on June 30, 1975, in Scotland, Mo. Together they have two children. David was owner operator of J&D Auto. He was known to be very fair to his customers. He was a devoted member of Southside Community Church of God where he served as deacon. He was also a bible study and Sunday school teacher. He loved working on cars. David had a very kind spirit. He never met a stranger and was a true friend to many.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Debbie Worden, Joplin; one son Jeff Worden and wife Crystal, Webb City, Mo.; one daughter, Jesse Worden; his mother Betty Cain, Joplin; one brother Jimmy Worden, of Alabama; four sisters, Terry Daggett, Joplin, Joyce Knoch, Lacey Springs, Al., Patty Jaggars, Joplin, and Kristin Cain, Joplin; one granddaughter, Kamryn Worden; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Worden and his brother-in-law, Charlie Daggett.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Southside Community Church of God. Reverend Billie Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Cemetery, near Diamond, Mo. The pallbearers will be Larry Shepherd, Danny Shepherd, Mark Mooneyham, Denny Carver, DeWayne Gibson, and Wayne Johnson. Honorary pallbearer will be Wayne Lown.
The family will receive friends 4-5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to Southside Community Church of God building fund.
