Howard Thomas "Casey" O'Hanahan, age 91, Joplin, formerly of Denver, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Spring River Christian Village.
Casey was born August 10, 1922 in Denver, Colorado where he grew up and graduated from East High School. He then served his country in the Coast Guard and Navy. He attended boot camp at Port Townsend in Washington before being stationed in Guam.
On September 12, 1953 he married Arvella Grace Sommerfeldt, and they began their family. Casey worked for the Air Force Finance Center, a position he held for 35 years. During that time he also worked for Sears, and at the dog track. He really enjoyed watching the dogs, and his children always looked forward to opening day of each season because they were allowed to go that day. He was known for loving his family, and going above and beyond to meet their needs. He was also known for entertaining the family with his stories.
Survivors include his children, Maureen Simmons, David O'Hanahan and wife Kristen all of Denver, and Mick O'Hanahan and wife Lisa of Carl Junction, Missouri; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Christian Church of Carl Junction with Pastor Cody Stinnett officiating.
Interment will be Friday, January 31, 2014 at 12:15 p.m. in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado with full military honors.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ninos de Mexico Mission.
