Kevin Patrick Hayes, 51, Joplin, passed away on December 31, 2013. He was born on February 12, 1962 in Long Beach, California to James Patrick Hayes and Sharon Lee (Jones) Hayes.
Kevin moved to Joplin in 1978 and graduated from Neosho High School in 1980. He was an extremely talented fabricator and worked at Allied Engineering for over 30 years. There are many examples of his work throughout Joplin and he was a big part of building the Art Feeds bus. He had the ability to come up with an idea, draw it on paper, and then build it from scratch. He was a hard worker, whether it was for his job or volunteering. He was a wonderful, loving son; brother; father and grandfather. Kevin was an uplifting, kind-hearted person who had a positive impact on all who met him. One of his favorite hobbies was building guitars and playing them. He was never a materialistic person, he was always happy with what he had.
Survivors include one daughter, Katelyn Hayes, Neosho; two sons, Ryan Hayes, an Airman currently stationed in South Korea, Joseph Hayes, a Marine, stationed in San Diego, California with his wife, Sarah; one grandson, Weston Metcalf; two brothers, Stan Hayes and Steve Hayes and his wife, Deb, Joplin; his mother, Sharon Hayes, Joplin; his aunt, Bonnie Swanson, and several nieces and nephews. He was previously married to Dawn Harmon of Neosho and Jacque Dickson, Hannibal, Missouri. Kevin was preceded in death by his father, James Patrick Hayes.
Memorial services are planned for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Blendville Christian Church, 2201 S. Picher Ave. Kevin donated his remains for medical research, so there will be no graveside service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, in care of Parker Mortuary.
