Ivell Boykin, age 84, Joplin, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center following an illness.
Ivell was born April 21, 1929 in Ringold, Louisiana to the late Sam Weathers and Luzella Ashley Weathers and had lived in Joplin most of her life.
As a homemaker, Ivell was busy raising her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing blankets and quilts and reading poetry. She was a faithful member of Handy Chapel A.M.E., where she served as the Sunday School superintendent. She also led the choir and sang in a quartet. But most of all, her family meant everything to her.
Survivors include three sons, Anthony Weathers and his wife, Lynn, Joplin, Donald Cox, Joplin, Kenny Weathers, Joplin; a daughter, Sharon Jones and her husband, Jerry, Joplin; a sister, Atrice Palmer, Joplin; a niece that was raised as a sister, Lurene Clay, Joplin; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Ivell was preceded in death by six sisters; three brothers and a granddaughter, Kendace ‘Sissy’ DeCarlo.
Services are planned for Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Willie E. Rogers, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Jones, Richard Fowler, Gary Jackson, Dave Jackson, Kevin Jackson and Erwin Palmer.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
