Jennie Lee Gentleman, age 90, Joplin, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 at her home with her son and a Hospice nurse at her side.
Jennie was born March 7, 1923 in Laurel, Mississippi, daughter of the late Clarence David Bartran and Mable Walker Bartran. She grew up in Mississippi, and graduated from high school before marrying William Edward Gentleman II. She served in home health care for years before earning her Licensed Practical Nurse degree in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked for a number of years. She moved to Joplin in the mid 70's to be close to her family, and continued to serve others working at Freeman Hospital and the former Oak Hill Hospital before retiring in 1986. Jennie was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, serving as a regular pioneer in both the Joplin East and Joplin West Congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In addition to her parents,
Jennie was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Yount, and two brothers, Clarence Bartran and John David Bartran. Survivors include her son, William "Bill" Edward Gentleman III and wife Deanna of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; other extended family, and many friends.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1201 S. Schifferdecker Ave., Joplin. Caretakers from Hospice and Oxford , as well as Murphy Manor neighbors are welcomed. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
