Joe Ray “PaPa Joe” Turner, age 80 of Joplin, passed away at 4:50 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.
Born October 23, 1933 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Joe and Vinita Stephens Turner and lived in the area his lifetime. Joe retired from Eagle-Picher Industries with 27 years of service. He was also an auctioneer for eight years and operated a booth at Joplin Flea Market for several years. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time trout fishing with his family.
He married Betty Lee Bennett in 1952 in Miami, OK. They later divorced. In 1969 he married Mary Hancock. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include four sons, Ricky Joe Turner and wife Terry of Joplin, Danny Turner of Baxter Springs, KS, Timmy Turner and wife Donna of Walnut Grove, MO, Joe Turner and wife Vicki of Carterville, MO; a daughter, Mardisa Rich and husband Jerry of Joplin; stepdaughter, Mary Johnson and husband Larry of Joplin; two stepsons; his brother, Larry Steven Turner and wife Patricia of Corpus Christi, TX; his sister, Martha Kurtz and husband James of Joplin; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at Parker Chapel with sons, Tim and Joe Turner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Mustang Heritage Foundation at (www.mustangheritagefoundation.org).
