Virgie M. Drake, age 88, of Carterville, Mo. passed away at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at her home following a five month illness. Virgie was born November 14, 1925 in Clearwater Kansas, the daughter of Ernice and Flora Cheek. She had lived in the Joplin area most of her life. She was a Homemaker. Virgie was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Webb City Congregation.
Virgie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Darrell D. Drake, two sons, Leroy and Keith Drake, a sister, Dorothy Drew, and a brother, Homer Cheek. Survivors include a son, Dean Drake and wife Pam, Kearney, Mo., two brothers, Harold Cheek and wife Glennis, Nowata, Okla. and Howard Cheek, Webb City, Mo. a sister in law, Clara Cheek, Carterville, Mo., five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin with Steve Lichtenauer officiating. Burial will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
