Joann C. Tichota, age 77, of Joplin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at 9:38 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital.
Born April 17, 1936 in Cuming County Nebraska, she graduated from Wisner High School. Joann had lived in Omaha, NE, Lima, OH and in 1961, moved to Joplin. She was a homemaker and office manager for Hertz Corporation. She was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church since 1961. Joann enjoyed baking and visited her friends with her baked delights. Loved by all of her friends, she enjoyed playing bridge, cards and had fun playing board games with her grandchildren.
On November 26, 1953, she married Lambert W. “Joe” Tichota at Fremont, NE. He survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Terry J. Tichota of Las Vegas, NV; a son, Jon J. Tichota and his wife Jennifer of Skokie, IL; two grandchildren, Juliana and Lukas Tichota, both of Skokie; a brother, Ottlin Wegner and wife Maxine of Red Oak, TX; many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Ruth Kowitzsky Wegner; a son, Joel R. Tichota of Chicago, IL and a daughter, Julie A. Tichota of Joplin.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Frank Sierra officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ozarks Food Harvest, a food bank for struggling families.
